In this autumnal issue of Trusteeship, we examine the enrollment management challenges more and more institutions are facing in “The Rules of Attraction: Enrolling Students in (and for) the 21st Century,” by Julie Bourbon. Former Harvard President Derek Bok addresses the conundrum that presidents and boards face when trying to engage each other for the good of the institution in “The Trouble with Shared Governance.” As public scrutiny of boardroom behavior increases, boards could learn “A Lesson from Corporate Boardrooms: Practice Good Governance or Face External Forces,” by T. Grant Callery. And finally, governance expert Richard Chait leads an all-star panel discussion on the subject of “Difficult Days for Higher Ed: Is it Time to Short the Sector?”
