Access to Looking Under the Hood is limited to the individuals designated by the institution or university system. To request access and beginning using the institutional aid benchmarking tool, please complete our online enrollment form. Detailed instructions can be found under the User Guide pull down menu within the tool. The online tool displays the metrics in various graphic and table formats. The current metrics displayed on the site will be updated annually when new data becomes available.
AGB reminds board members that when using Looking Under the Hood and its metrics, its primary purpose is to inform policy discussions. All decisions about student aid policies should be made by the appropriate board members in full consultation with the institutional leaders and business officers.
Looking Under the Hood was developed in collaboration with the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and is supported by the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation. Building on AGB's work in strategic finance, as well as NACUBO's expertise on institutional aid, the two associations believe project will provide campus decision makers with the tools necessary to better understand institutional aid policies, practices, and effects. The initial set of metrics included in the tool is based on financial data collected by IPEDS and the College Board's Annual Survey of Colleges. Over time, several additional metrics on student demographic data (such as aid by income levels) will be collected and added to the site.
