2015 Survey of Board Professionals: Who They Are, What They Do, and Their Important Role in Governance

Details

2015

Board professionals provide critical support, planning, and coordination of important board functions. Their work is often unheralded and conducted behind the scenes, but it is critical to the success and performance of the board.

Since 1991, AGB has surveyed this group to capture the changing nature of their roles over time. The 2015 Survey of Board Professionals, a follow-up to a study conducted in 2010, sought to learn more about their roles, including their reporting relationships, compensation, years of experience, and more. In many ways, the results reflect what is happening in higher education generally—with constrained resources, board professionals are being asked to do more with less.

The downloadable full report provides a detailed profile of today’s board professional.

AGB would like to extend its appreciation to the AGB Board Professionals for their thoughtful engagement and work in developing this survey. Special thanks to the survey's task force: Steven W. Frieder, assistant to the president and corporate secretary at Marquette University; Lorrie Kyle, executive assistant to the president & assistant secretary at Rollins College; Tina Montemayor, assistant secretary to the board at the University of Texas System; Mitzi Norton, director for the office of the president at Adler University; and Anne Shaw, secretary and chief of staff to the regents at the University of California System.
