What are the most common standing committees used by institutionally related foundation boards?

Foundation boards report an average of six standing committees. Foundations with larger endowments generally have more standing committees. Independent foundations average seven committees while dependent foundations average five.

The six most common foundation board standing committees are, in descending order:

1. Executive

2. Nominating/Membership/Directors

3. Investment

4. Development/fund raising

5. Audit*

6. Finance/Budget*

*Note that 37 percent of foundation boards have a combined audit and finance committee that is not reflected here.
