The AGB Initiative on Board Engagement in College Completion and Attainment encourages and facilitates board engagement to further these important goals. Funded by Lumina Foundation, it advocates for higher education leaders to focus on the oversight and policy issues related to the national challenge of increasing student success.
The initiative supports broad efforts currently underway across higher education to increase the number of degree and certificate recipients. Components of this initiative include:
- National survey of governing boards to understand their engagement in completion efforts.
- Report and analysis of these efforts, available to all institutions to guide discussions taking place in boardrooms.
- AGB policy statement focused on board policies and practices for oversight of completion and student success.
Additionally, AGB will use its statewide programs for board members and trustees to collaborate with leaders and discuss the role of boards in completion agendas. In the last year, alone, AGB has led over a dozen statewide programs for newer board members. Its work in some 200 board rooms annually and its other outreach programs will enable AGB to frame specific practices for governing bodies to address this overarching issue in a more coherent manner at the governance level.
This 18-month initiative benefits from the leadership of an advisory council and will be completed at the end of 2016.
