Jim Geringer

Former Governor of Wyoming and Chair of Western Governors University

The Honorable Jim Geringer served as governor of Wyoming from 1995 to 2003. He is one of the founding governors of Western Governors University and serves as chair of its board of trustees. Geringer is the current director of policy and public sector strategies at the Environmental Systems Research Institute.

As governor of Wyoming, Geringer improved education through standards, accountability, and technology. He served as chair of the Western Governor’s Association and the Education Commission of the States. Currently his memberships include the mapping sciences committee under the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council; Western Interstate Energy Board; Alliance for Earth Observation; National Governors Association Alliance for eHealth; the board of governors of the Park City Center for Public Policy; and co-chair of the Policy Consensus Initiative. He also served on John Glenn's National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century.

Geringer holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University and is a veteran of the reserves and the U.S. Air Force (active duty, 1967-77). He served on AGB’s board of directors and as its chair until 2014.
