AGB Consulting offers a number of areas of service to advance the work of your board and your institution. Below is a short case study from a Catholic University (with 22+ board members) about utilizing a consultant for the strategic planning process.
Our board was undergoing a strategic planning process, and we wanted to make sure we were remaining true to our mission as a Catholic university. At the recommendation of a good friend and colleague, I reached out to AGB Consulting.
As a new president, one of the challenges I faced when I suggested bringing in AGB Consulting was obtaining the support of the full board. The board members were weary of a cookie-cutter approach being applied to our strategic planning process. A new strategic plan had already been put on hold during the presidential search, so a highly relevant and individual approach was needed. In advance of our retreat, the AGB consultant and I had many planning calls where we discussed the nuances of the university’s mission and aspirations.
At the retreat, the board was pleasantly surprised with the AGB consultant and the depth of her understanding of our institution. Several of the board members had planned on leaving the retreat early but ended up staying past the allocated time in order to develop the theme for the mission statement that would guide the new strategic plan.
Moving forward, board members are planning to work with the consultant again on roles and responsibilities of the board. And we’re also looking forward to taking part in the next National Conference on Trusteeship.
